Kris Kuksi

A friend showed me this website and I am awed by these sculptures. Check them out:

He does sculptures, paintings and drawings and his name is Kris Kuksi

http://kuksi.com/artworks/

He is from Missouri and his bio talks about depressing stuff but probably the most depressing thing is that he lists Fred Durst as one of the individuals that own his art work (and Durst is also listed as a film director) but anyway you should check out his pieces because they are really good.

The Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band

I'm always trying to show these guys to people, they were a British art school band that formed with a chap by the name of Vivian Stanshall in the 60s. They were friends with Monty Python and had a recurrent gig with them on British television called "do not adjust your set". What I think is most impressive is that they were said to have given the guys from Monty Python the idea that being silly was cool, which says something. This is really just a sample of them and more stuff can be found by them on youtube. I think they have a place on this blog because of the absurd nature of their work -- really though, Vivian Stanshall is to be given the most credit. He was a true eccentric and whatever he did was at best highly original and at worst completely out of left field. It can be safely said that he got people's attention and this is what he shares with the grotesque -- deviant ideas that make light of the rational and conventional. ENJOY!

Photomanipulation, Matt Mahurin

Matt Mahurin has some excellent work that blurs the lines between mediums... he's a painter turned photographer turned illustrator turned director... at this point, I believe he is only defined as an artist.

L'Empire de la Mort!

Caroline's "Bone Room" post reminded me of this...
Here are some vacation photos from my trip to Paris a few years ago. On one lucky day my family and I went to both the catacombs AND Pere lachaise cemetery (where everybody's buried). Here are some very fuzzy pictures from the catacombs. I've tried to understand what the wall plaque says (second to last picture), but my french is failing. From what I can gather, it's a philosophical/poetic musing on death. How French.

ALSO, when I went to Rome, I went here. I was 12 at the time and thought it was gross. Kids just don't appreciate the things their parents do for them.

AND NOW... to the print shop!!!
